Canadian HR and payroll software for mid-market teams
The short answer
Workzoom is Canadian HR and payroll software for mid-market organizations of 50 to 5,000 employees. 100% Canadian-owned, Toronto-headquartered, with a continuous Canadian payroll lineage since 1974. One employee record runs HR, payroll, workforce, and talent across every province. T4, ROE, CPP, EI, and provincial taxes calculate every pay run, with CRA- and Service Canada-formatted T4 and ROE files generated for you to submit; a few provincial WCB filings run through an integration partner. A Canadian implementation team sets you up. Used by County of Renfrew, Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, and County of Brant.

Inside the platform
What Canadian employers run on Workzoom.
Employee self-service, admin dashboards, timesheets, and reports.

Admin Dashboard
Headcount, turnover, and workforce trends update in real time.

Organization Chart
The chart maps positions, not people. When someone leaves, the role stays in place along with the certifications and compliance requirements attached to it. Reorganizations stop being chaos.

Timekeeping
Employees clock in from the web, their phone, or a biometric device. Hours flow straight into payroll with overtime already calculated, so the pay run runs without surprises.

Leave Management
Requests come in from a phone, managers approve in a tap, and balances update everywhere at once.

Payroll Financial Reports
Pay run summaries, deduction breakdowns, and remittance totals live in one report, built for the way finance teams actually audit.

Benefits Administration
The moment someone enrolls, deductions are already wired into payroll.
Canadian to the core
Owned, built, and supported in Canada
Workzoom is 100% Canadian-owned and operated: founder-led, headquartered in Toronto, and run by Nortek Solutions Inc. Your data stays in Canada, your statutory engine is built to CRA rules, and a Canadian team onboards and supports you in both official languages.
100% Canadian-owned and operated
Founder-led and headquartered in Toronto, operated by Nortek Solutions Inc. Workzoom answers to no foreign parent company.
CRA-native since 1974
A continuous Canadian payroll lineage back to 1974. CPP, EI, T4, and ROE are built natively to CRA and Service Canada rules, not bolted onto a US engine.
Your data stays in Canada
Hosted on AWS with Canadian data residency, so your employee and payroll data is stored on infrastructure inside Canada.
Onboarded and supported in Canada
A Canadian implementation team that knows CRA, ROE, and provincial rules first-hand sets you up at no extra cost, with ongoing support in English and Canadian French.
Which Canadian banks does Workzoom support for direct deposit?
Workzoom generates the direct-deposit file for every payroll run in the Payments Canada EFT standard (CPA Standard 005). Because that is the format every Canadian bank and credit union accepts, the file reaches any institution your employees use, not only the ones listed here. Net pay moves straight from your account to your employees’ accounts. Workzoom never holds, pools, or impounds the money.
- RBC Royal Bank
- TD Canada Trust
- Bank of Nova Scotia
- BMO
- CIBC
- National Bank of Canada
- Desjardins

Implementation
Canada go-lives.Most in four to twelve weeks.
Most teams go live in four to twelve weeks. Larger or more complex rollouts, think 500-plus employees, multiple entities or pay groups, or a full payroll migration, typically run twelve to thirty-six weeks. Payroll goes live first, then HR, scheduling, and talent phase in behind it.
Discovery and kickoff
We map your payroll, time, and HR workflows, import employees, and lock tax setup and pay groups. Clean, exportable data here is the single biggest accelerator.
Configure
Earnings, deductions, leave policies, schedules, and compliance alerts built into your tenant. We verify every calculation with your team.
Parallel run
Live payroll runs side by side with your current system. One or two pay cycles reconciled. Gaps fixed before cutover, not after.
Payroll live
First production pay run on Workzoom. Employee self-service opens. HR, scheduling, and talent modules phase in over the following quarters.
Do
- Define your org structure clearly, the clearer the faster
- Hand over a clean Excel export of all employee records
- Decide how you want your workflows to look
- Order your time clocks at kickoff so they ship in time
- Attend the working sessions you schedule
- Use Workzoom between sessions, not only in meetings
Don't
- Turnover on your project team mid-implementation
- Key people on vacation during setup
- Employee data stuck in a legacy system or on paper
- Leaving your org structure or workflows undefined
Between sessions, your implementation specialist builds your setup from what each meeting decides, so the more your team defines up front, the faster you go live.
How it works
What running payroll in Canada actually requires
13 provinces and territories, CPP2 changes, EI rate updates, and ROE submission requirements make specific demands of the system behind the payroll run.
Single database. No sync required.
HR, Workforce, Payroll, and Talent share one employee record. When a rate changes in HR, payroll reads it immediately. No sync job between modules, no reconciliation step.
13 provincial tax tables, maintained automatically.
Federal and provincial income tax is calculated across all provinces and territories. Tax tables update when CRA publishes changes. No manual table entry.
CPP, CPP2, and EI at current rates.
CPP at 5.95% on pensionable earnings to the $74,600 YMPE, CPP2 at 4% between the YMPE and the $85,000 YAMPE, and EI at 1.63% on insurable earnings to the $68,900 maximum. All rates update automatically when CRA publishes changes.
Data hosted in Canada, governed by Canadian law.
Canadian client data is hosted on AWS infrastructure in Canada and stays resident in Canada, with no routine cross-border data transfers for Canadian clients.
Statutory rates 2026
Statutory payroll rates for Canada
Current employee and employer contribution rates, ceilings, and thresholds set by the issuing authority. Workzoom configures and maintains these rates in the platform, reviewed quarterly and on every statutory change, so payroll runs use the current values.
| Contribution | Rate | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPP employee contribution rate | 5.95% | CRA | YMP: $74,600 · YAMPE: $85,000 |
| CPP2 second-tier contribution rate | 4% | CRA | YAMPE: $85,000 |
| EI employee premium rate | 1.63% | CRA | MIE: $68,900 |
| EI employee premium rate (Quebec) | 1.30% | CRA | |
| QPP employee contribution rate (Quebec) | 6.40% | Revenu Québec | |
| QPIP employee premium rate (Quebec) | 0.494% | Revenu Québec |

Compliance
How does Workzoom handle Canada payroll compliance?
Workzoom stays current with Canada's payroll, tax, and employment regulations so you don't have to.
The filing boundary
What Workzoom generates, and what your team submits
Canadian payroll runs on filings with named agencies. Workzoom prepares each one in the format the agency accepts; your team reviews it and submits it. Workzoom never files with the government or moves money on your behalf.
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
Workzoom generates T4 slips and the CRA electronic-filing file ahead of the February 28 deadline, and prepares source-deduction remittance amounts on the cadence assigned to your account. Your team submits the filing and the remittance to the CRA.
Service Canada
Workzoom generates Records of Employment electronically in Service Canada's format when earnings are interrupted, with the reason code, last day worked, and insurable earnings recorded. Your team submits the ROE to Service Canada.
Your bank
Workzoom generates the direct-deposit file in the Payments Canada EFT standard (CPA Standard 005). You upload it to your own bank, and net pay moves from your account to your employees' accounts. Workzoom never holds, pools, or impounds funds.
Provincial agencies
Workers' compensation premiums for WSIB, WorkSafeBC, CNESST, and the provincial WCBs, plus employer health taxes where they apply, are calculated on each pay run and prepared for your team to remit to the provincial agency.
