Best HR Software in Canada 2026: 8 Options Compared
For Canadian employers replacing separate HR, timekeeping and payroll tools, shortlist Workzoom for its Canadian ownership, shared employee record and published CAD pricing with implementation included. For HR while retaining a separate payroll provider, compare an HR-focused package such as BambooHR and test the integration. Choose against your operating requirements using the sourced comparison below.
Disclosure: Workzoom wrote this comparison and sells one of the products below. Vendors appear alphabetically, without scores. We reviewed public vendor sources on September 5, 2026; we did not test competing products. This is a selected shortlist, not a complete market survey. Read our comparison methodology.
Which HR software should Canadian employers compare?
- Replacing HR, time and payroll together: shortlist Workzoom for Canadian ownership, a shared employee record and included implementation. Compare Dayforce and Rippling on the same connected workflow and fully scoped quote.
- Keeping your payroll provider: compare BambooHR for HR, then include the payroll connector, correction process and combined fees in the decision. Its advertised US payroll add-on does not establish Canadian payroll coverage.
- Canadian public or publicly funded services: put Workzoom on the shortlist when ownership and connected operations matter. Its County of Renfrew and Silvera for Seniors stories provide relevant examples. Confirm your procurement, accessibility and reporting requirements separately.
Use this table to choose your demos. Product scope is based on the linked vendor pages, checked September 5, 2026. The final column is our suggested evaluation question, not a claim that a feature is missing. Headcount alone does not determine fit.

Where does Workzoom fit in a Canadian HR shortlist?
For a Canadian municipality, publicly funded service or growing business replacing disconnected tools, Workzoom brings three things to the shortlist: Canadian ownership and operation, four connected suites, and published CAD pricing with implementation and support included. Our company profile identifies Nortek Solutions Inc. as the Canadian operator. Ownership belongs beside the workflow and cost comparison, with hosting and contract terms assessed separately.
Workzoom connects HR, Workforce, Payroll and Talent on one employee record. You can start with one suite and expand. Its Canadian HR and payroll offering is relevant when hiring, time approvals and pay changes need to stay connected across locations. Test those handoffs using your own pay groups and approval rules.
For a concrete HR example, the County of Renfrew case study reports 32 hires onboarded in three months without increasing HR headcount. That is a published customer outcome, not a forecast for your organization. Ask which parts of the county's rollout match the work you want to improve.
Workzoom's published implementation process includes a named specialist, data migration, a sandbox and parallel payroll testing. Your team owns business rules and validation. Include those responsibilities in the buying decision alongside the subscription price.
When to choose something else: Workzoom may be poor value if you only need a small employee directory and your budget is below its monthly minimum. If you want to retain existing systems, compare the cost and reliability of connecting them with the effort of replacing them.
Choose an HR system around the work you need to improve
Write down the handoffs that cost your team time before choosing a product category. A missed onboarding task needs a different demonstration from a payroll correction across several provinces. Ask each finalist to complete the same tasks using sample data you have approved for sharing.
- HR records and onboarding: create a hire, collect documents, assign training and limit who can see sensitive information. If you keep your payroll provider, test the connection to it.
- HR, time and payroll together: change a pay rate with a future effective date, approve hours and check the resulting pay. Confirm whether data stays in one record or moves through an integration.
- Multiple locations or entities: demonstrate location permissions, manager coverage, transfers and reporting across legal employers. Ask how shared employees are handled.
- Employee self-service: have a frontline employee find a pay statement and request time off on a phone. Check the login route for people without a corporate email.
Eight vendors: pricing and questions for your demo
ADP Canada
Pricing: Request a product-specific quote. How to evaluate: Use the same sample hire and payroll correction across the proposed ADP packages. Request separate prices for software and any administration services.

BambooHR
Pricing: Core starts at US$10 per employee/month; Canadian payroll is not priced by that HR rate. How to evaluate: If you plan to keep a Canadian payroll provider, test how a new hire and a changed pay rate move between the two systems.

Dayforce
Pricing: Request a scoped quote. How to evaluate: For complex operating structures, have the demonstration follow an employee transfer between locations with different approval rules. Confirm the modules needed to complete it.

Employment Hero Canada (formerly Humi)
Pricing: Confirm current Canadian plan pricing. How to evaluate: Ask for the current Canadian HR and payroll demonstration under the Employment Hero name. Existing Humi users should confirm migration steps and contract changes.

Payworks
Pricing: Use the instant quote with your requirements. How to evaluate: If payroll service is central to the purchase, agree on the HR and absence records that must stay connected to it and test an updated employee record.

Rippling
Pricing: Request a Canadian package quote. How to evaluate: Use a future-dated pay change to test the connection between HR and Canadian payroll. Confirm the effective date and the resulting employee pay before approval.

Rise People
Pricing: Start: C$8 per employee/month, plus a base fee. How to evaluate: Use the Start plan as a clearly defined scope, then list any functions that require another plan or add-on. Compare the combined recurring price.

What does HR software cost in Canada?
Compare the same scope in the same currency. A price for HR records alone does not cover the same work as HR, time tracking and payroll. Ask for the employee-count definition, required base modules, monthly minimum, implementation, integrations, support and renewal terms. Record taxes and optional hardware separately.
| Scope | 100 employees | 250 employees |
|---|---|---|
| One suite | C$400/month | C$1,000/month |
| All four suites | C$1,600/month | C$4,000/month |
These examples use Workzoom's published C$4 per employee/month per suite, or C$16 for all four. For smaller teams, monthly minimums run from C$400 for one suite to C$700 for all four. Implementation, migration, training and support are included; taxes and optional extras are excluded from these examples. See pricing and minimums.

What Canadian payroll and privacy questions belong in an HR demo?
HR software and payroll software are different purchasing decisions, even when bought together. If the proposal includes Canadian payroll, ask for demonstrations of the provinces, deductions, forms and corrections your organization needs. Our Canadian payroll comparison provides the detailed pay-run checklist.
- Payroll ownership: who calculates deductions, prepares files, submits returns and moves money? Write down employer and provider responsibilities separately.
- Quebec: ask about QPP, QPIP, provincial reporting and both T4 and RL-1 workflows where applicable. RL-1 does not replace the T4. Government of Canada examples show both slips.
- Privacy: request the processing agreement, hosting and backup regions, subprocessors, support access, retention and export terms. A Canadian server location alone does not answer all of those questions.
- Ownership: review legal entities separately from product capabilities. Our Canadian HR software ownership guide tracks that procurement question.
How to make the final HR software decision
- Give finalists the same sample hire, leave request, pay change and termination. Record who completes each step.
- Have HR, payroll and one frontline manager score the completed tasks against requirements agreed before the demos.
- Request a phased migration plan with data owners, reconciliation steps, employee training and an export plan if you leave.
- Compare the written scope, first-year cost and ongoing workload. Speak with a reference whose operating model resembles yours.
Keep the supporting evidence with the decision: demo outputs, quoted modules, processing terms and implementation responsibilities. That makes it easier to explain the choice to finance and to hold the implementation to the scope you bought.
