Comparison methodology

How we compare vendors, and why nothing is ranked.

Workzoom publishes comparison pages that name other HR and payroll vendors. Workzoom sells one of the products on every one of those pages. This page states the rules those pages follow, so you can judge them for yourself.

Who writes these pages

Workzoom writes and publishes every comparison on this site, and Workzoom is a vendor in every comparison. That conflict is stated near the top of each page, not in a footnote. We do not use a separate editorial brand, a guest byline, or a review-site format to soften it. If you would read a competitor's comparison of us with suspicion, read ours the same way, and check the sources, which are all linked.

Where every fact comes from

A fact about another vendor is allowed on a page only if it comes from one of these primary sources, carries one URL, and carries the date we checked it:

  • the vendor's own website: its product, pricing, security, about, or contact page;
  • the vendor's listing on the Apple App Store or Google Play;
  • G2 or Capterra, for review counts and ratings only, read live on the review site itself;
  • a government company registry, such as Companies House, a provincial corporate registry, or an SEC filing.

Where none of those publishes the fact, the cell reads "not published by the vendor". That is a statement about what is public, not a claim about what is true. Press coverage, analyst reports, and other vendors' comparison pages can confirm a fact but never supply one. Nothing said to us in a sales call, a demo, a proposal, or a lost deal ever appears on a page as a claim about another vendor.

Workzoom's own row is held to the same rule. Our facts come from our published pricing, technology, and legal pages, and from our named, published case studies, not from internal claims. Where we hold no certification in our own name, the page says so.

Why nothing is ranked

A vendor that ranks itself first has written an advertisement, whatever the headline says. Our pages sort vendors alphabetically, or into size or region segments and then alphabetically. There is no "best" verdict, no score, and no numbered list with Workzoom at the top. The comparison axes are chosen because buyers ask about them; the vendor's own published facts fill the cells; the reader draws the conclusion.

Every page also carries one plain sentence on who Workzoom is not for. A comparison that has no answer to that question is not a comparison.

Dated facts, not characterizations

We publish what a vendor's own page says and when we read it. We do not publish adjectives about it. "The homepage footer reads copyright 2018 and no release notes are published" is a fact you can check. "Outdated" is our opinion, and it stays off the page. "Parent company founded 2019, no product launch year stated" is a fact. "Unproven" is not. "Native payroll is designed for US-based employees, per the vendor's payroll page" is a fact. "No local payroll" is a paraphrase we avoid.

What we do not assess

Our comparisons are sourcing exercises, not product reviews. We do not run payroll on competing platforms, test their user experience, measure their support response times, or interview their customers for these pages. Where a page reports a customer outcome for Workzoom, it links to a published, named case study.

Re-verification

Every vendor fact carries the date it was checked, and the whole table is re-verified whenever the page is edited. An acquisition, an investment, a price change, or a new certification changes a row as soon as it is confirmed against a primary source. Some vendor and review sites block automated reading; where a fact was confirmed through a text copy of the vendor's own page rather than the live page, the entry says so, and where a review count could not be read live it is marked unverified rather than copied from a third party.

How to report a correction

If you work for a vendor named on one of these pages and a fact is wrong, or you have a primary source that contradicts a row, email info@workzoom.com with the page URL, the cell, and the source. We correct against the primary source and update the checked date. We do not take down a sourced fact because a vendor would prefer it were not public.
