What you'll learn

What did Cable Bahamas say changed once HR, time and payroll shared one record?

Shanika Pinder answers three questions from the host: how Cable Bahamas reduced redundancy with one HRIS, how employees and managers handle time and time off, and how payroll got faster and more accurate. These are her answers from the recording, in the order she gave them.

  • One employee record, fewer duplicates Employee information now sits in a single central database, which Shanika says cut duplication and errors and ended the scramble to find the right file. Routine work such as payroll scheduling and leave management is automated, performance reviews and goal setting run online, and recruitment is handled through connected modules.
  • Time and time off from any device Employees log their time on an interface she calls user friendly, including from a mobile app, and she says the foot traffic into payroll and HR dropped sharply. Managers get notifications for time entries that need attention, can see hours and overtime as they build up, and approve or adjust without waiting for the end of the period.
  • HR and payroll kept in separate lanes Cable Bahamas separates HR and payroll duties with role-based access, so a person is given only the functions their job needs. She gives the example of someone in training who can use the system without reaching HR or payroll functions.
  • Flags before payroll runs After more than 20 years working in payroll, Shanika describes the flags as an extra pair of eyes. They tell the team that something may be wrong, so errors are caught and corrected before the payroll run instead of after it.
  • No re-keying between HR, time and payroll A team of three handles payroll for the Cable group of companies. She describes timekeeping, HR and payroll as one connected flow, so the manual sheet that used to pass between HR and payroll is gone, and taxes and deductions are calculated automatically once the setup is in place.

How does this session connect to the Cable Bahamas results?

Cable Bahamas is a Bahamian group of companies and a Workzoom client. Its published numbers sit in the Cable Bahamas case study: payroll processing down from 5 days to 1.5 days, run by three payroll staff. This webinar is the people side of that story, told by the person who runs the pay cycle.

A short clip of a Cable Bahamas payroll team member at the Workzoom Bahamas Summit covers the same starting point from the other direction: 400 manual timesheets in each pay period. For the math behind a small payroll team, read how three people run payroll for 850 employees, and for the Bahamian side of the pay run, the NIB and C10 audit guide. Workzoom's wider Bahamas work is on the Bahamas country page.
