The short answer
Payroll year-end is the annual close where an employer reconciles the year's pay runs, verifies employee data, and produces statutory reporting: T4s and T4 Summary in Canada, W-2s in the United States, and the country equivalents elsewhere. Deadlines fall in the weeks after December 31. Workzoom generates year-end data from the payroll history on each employee record, and your team submits the filings.
How Payroll Year-End works.
Year-end is a reconciliation, not a calculation. Every figure already exists in the pay runs, so the work is confirming that the payroll record, the remittance record, and the employee data agree. Taxable benefits are the usual reason they do not, since benefits recorded outside payroll never entered the taxable base. Address and identification data matters as much as the money, because a form issued to a stale address or a wrong identifier fails at the employee rather than at the agency.
