The short answer
A payroll register is the detailed record of a single pay run, listing every employee with their gross earnings, each deduction, employer-side costs, and net pay. It is the document payroll is approved against before money moves and the record auditors ask for afterwards. Workzoom produces the register from the same run that generates the payments, so the approval copy and the paid result are the same data.
How Payroll Register works.
The register is the control point in the pay cycle. Reviewing it before release is what catches a duplicated employee, a rate entered in the wrong field, or a deduction that should have ended last month, while correction is still cheap. It also carries the employer-side costs that never appear on a payslip, which makes it the bridge between payroll and the general ledger. Because it is produced per run, comparing consecutive registers is the fastest way to spot an unintended change.
