Which days are not stat holidays in B.C.?
Easter Sunday, Easter Monday and Boxing Day are the three the province names. Good Friday is different: it is a B.C. statutory holiday, on Friday, April 3 in 2026, so the Easter weekend still carries one stat holiday. Check Boxing Day in particular if you also employ staff in another province, because the provincial lists are not the same.
Does every employee get paid for a B.C. stat holiday?
No. Employers owe statutory holiday pay only to employees who qualify, and the Employment Standards Branch sets the test on its qualify for statutory holiday pay page. Check that test for each employee before the holiday, not after the pay run.
The amount, and the extra pay for an employee who works the holiday, follow the branch's calculate statutory holiday pay page. Our statutory holiday pay guide compares the B.C. formula with Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.
How do BC statutory holidays 2026 fall for scheduling and payroll?
Five of the 2026 holidays land on a Monday: Family Day (Monday, February 16), Victoria Day (Monday, May 18), B.C. Day (Monday, August 3), Labour Day (Monday, September 7) and Thanksgiving Day (Monday, October 12). Those weeks start a day late, which matters when a pay period or timesheet approval closes on the Monday.
Three fall on a Wednesday: Canada Day (Wednesday, July 1), the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Wednesday, September 30) and Remembrance Day (Wednesday, November 11). A mid-week holiday splits the working week, so check shift rotations and any weekly overtime count for those weeks.
Load the dates before the first pay period of the year
Enter the full B.C. list into scheduling, timesheets and payroll before January, and keep a separate calendar for each province you employ in. Checking the calendar before January avoids correcting holiday pay after a run has closed.
Workzoom's time and attendance software for Canadian employers connects schedules, timesheets and payroll. Bring the BC stat holidays 2026 calendar and a sample pay period to a demo and we will walk through how the holiday flows into pay.
