What employers actually ask about Trinidad and Tobago NIS.

The most common questions Trinidad and Tobago employers ask about NIS, filing, and payroll integration.

The Trinidad NIS calculator runs National Insurance System (NIS), PAYE, and Health Surcharge deductions on any gross pay. Live rates from the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) and the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT), with the weekly earnings class table applied automatically. Enter gross pay and pay frequency to see employer and employee NIS contributions, PAYE withholding, and the TT$8.25 weekly Health Surcharge in seconds.
Workzoom applies the current Trinidad and Tobago NIS rate of 5.4% for the employee and 10.8% for the employer on insurable earnings up to NIBTT's highest class (TTD 3,138 per week / TTD 13,600 per month). The combined NIS contribution is 16.2% of insurable pay, effective 5 January 2026, up from 12.6% under the previous schedule.
Workzoom tracks NIBTT's 16 earnings classes per employee. The highest class XVI applies above TTD 3,138 weekly / TTD 13,600 monthly. Once insurable earnings hit class XVI, NIS does not increase further while PAYE and Health Surcharge continue without that cap.
Health Surcharge is an employee-only flat weekly deduction, not a percent of pay. It is TTD 8.25 per week for employees earning more than TTD 469.99 per month and TTD 4.80 per week for employees earning TTD 469.99 per month or less. Health Surcharge is remitted with PAYE on the monthly schedule to the Board of Inland Revenue. Workzoom is built to handle it as part of the T&T configuration.
Workzoom generates the C110 contribution schedule so it is ready before the 15th of the following month, the NIBTT deadline. Late C110s draw TTD 40 per week overdue, plus a 25% surcharge and 15% per year interest on unremitted contributions under the National Insurance Act.
Workzoom applies the current PAYE rates of 25% on chargeable income up to TTD 1,000,000 and 30% on chargeable income above TTD 1,000,000. Chargeable income is gross income less the TTD 90,000 personal allowance and any approved deductions. PAYE is remitted monthly to the Board of Inland Revenue.
Workzoom produces both. The C110 is the monthly NIS contribution schedule filed with NIBTT for one pay period. The TD4 is the BIR annual employee return reconciling PAYE for the prior year and is due by 28 February. Both are built from the same payroll engine so the year and the months agree.
With Workzoom, every employer operating in Trinidad and Tobago must register with NIBTT and contribute NIS for each insured employee earning above the lowest earnings class. Self-employed individuals contribute at a combined rate covering both employer and employee portions, and directors receiving salaried pay are treated as insured employees.
Workzoom charges $4 per employee per month per suite. The full platform of HR, Workforce, Payroll, and Talent runs $16 per employee per month. There are no setup fees, no annual contracts, and Trinidad and Tobago statutory deductions are included in payroll without per-line surcharges.
